This article explores the origins of the problematic of political community by considering it in relation to the founding principles of `modern thought'. These principles are identified with the extirpation of moral values and ends from nature, in keeping with the rise of a `disenchanted' and mechanical scientific world-view. The transition from an `ancient' to a `modern' world-view is elaborated by drawing upon the work of Hans Blumenberg and Leo Strauss. The `demoralization' of nature, it is claimed, projects the formation (...) of the political commons into the space of history, a space within which community must be produced via artifice on the part of the willing subject. This Leitbild of modern community is examined through a reading of Hobbes's Leviathan which, it is claimed, stands as the founding attempt to remember the political commons from the sphere of human immanence, without recourse to natural or theological externality. However, it is argued, nature occupies an intermediary and ambiguous position in Hobbes's thought, at once transcended and reinscribed into political life as a `hedonist anthropology' that defines the human animal. Further, Hobbes's insistence that conventionally produced standards need be misrecognized as necessary and non-contingent undermines their legitimacy from the standpoint of human autonomy. This failure to break decisively with the appeal to nature leads to a political community that is at best a simulacrum, far removed from the vision of ethical unity that characterizes the classical conception of the polis and political life. Yet, it is argued, Hobbes's strategy nevertheless presents the key to subsequent attempts to complete a political `revolt' against nature, as developed in the thought of Rousseau, Kant and Hegel. Based on a historical study of fee regulation in the employment agency business, the claim that temporary help agencies charge “no fees” to workers is challenged. It is found that the claim rests on technical changes in the statutory definitions of fee and employment agency won through industry lobbying efforts, changes that simply mask traditional fee-charging methods. The article traces the evolution of fee-charging practices in the post-World War II period and points to a new version of “fee splitting” as (...) a prevalent wage setting practice in the staffing industry. The implications of these developments for wage depression and income redistribution are explored. (shrink)

This paper attempts to sketch a critical model of political community by drawing upon recent contributions to the theory of ‘recognition’, particularly in the work of Axel Honneth. The paper proceeds by, first, delineating key features shared by a range of positions associated with ‘communitarianism’, along with the limitations and problems incurred by these commitments. The second part of the paper attempts to mobilise Honneth’s theoretical work to develop a conception of community that shares a number of the basic premisesvis-á-vis (...) political life associated with communitarianism, but which nevertheless accommodates the reservations expressed by communitarianism’s liberal and radical critics. The question of judgment has become one of the central problems in recent social, political and ethical thought. This paper explores Hannah Arendt's decisive contribution to this debate by attempting to reconstruct analytically two distinctive perspectives on judgment from the corpus of her writings. By exploring her relation to Aristotelian and Kantian sources, and by uncovering debts and parallels to key thinkers such as Benjamin and Heidegger, it is argued that Arendt's work pinpoints the key antinomy within political judgment itself, (...) that between the viewpoints of the political actor and the political spectator. The paper concludes by highlighting some lacunae and difficulties in the development of Arendt's account, difficulties that set challenges for those theorists (such as Seyla Benhabib and Alessandro Ferrara) who wish to appropriate and extend Arendt's contribution into the field of contemporary critical theory. El objetivoprincipal es mostrar cómo la formulación de preguntas contribuye de manera significativa a la creación de agendasde problemas abiertos que guían la investigación, fomentando el desarrollo de nuevas hipótesis y promoviendo la interdisciplinariedad en (...) los programas de investigación ante los desafíos ecológicos. La metodología incluyeuna revisión de la estructura teórica de la ecocrítica y de cómo las agendas de problemas aportan flexibilidadmetodológica, permitiendo reformular preguntas a medida que surgen nuevos datos, tecnologías y enfoques. Los resultados destacan la importancia de los cuestionamientos en las ciencias ambientales para redefinir nuevas agendas de investigación, integrando marcos conceptuales no unificados por una teoría central. The research paper addresses the unresolved linguistic vacuum that accounts for the authorial and fictional abrogation and appropriation of language in Lessing’s works. This research paper attempts to take a holistic view of these implications. Lessing has used a number of methods to overcome this inadequacy and the abrogation and appropriation of language thus seen is clearly evident in her novel The Grass is Singing. The concepts of hegemony of language by the colonizers and their control over the means of (...) communications as well as the attempts to liberate the language by the blacks were seen in the novel. In order to analyze the post-colonial aspects of the novel, one has to keep in mind the colonial features that were seen in The Grass is Singing. Thus, the process of abrogation and appropriation will be seen through the fictional characters of Mary and Moses. With these characters Lessing highlights the larger reality of the center-margin, colonizer-colonized relation in the novel. Natives on acquiring control over the Language and the ability to control the means of communication then reveal the hollowness of the colonial ideas based on oppression and exploitation of the indigenous people. Al-Ghazzālī a toujours utilisé les travaux de ses prédécesseurs. Le Mi‘yār al-‘ilm fī fann, sorte de manuel de logique aristotélicienne adaptée au droit et à la théologie islamiques, contient ainsi une grande variété d’écrits avicenniens, du K. jusqu’à certaines parties du Šifā’. Mais quelques écrits farabiens, en particulier al-Qiyās et al-Maqūlāt, y sont mêlés. C’est la première et, à notre connaissance, la seule fois qu’al-Ghazzālī combine ainsi des éléments empruntés à ces deux grands maîtres.

Mobil haberleşme piyasaları sermaye yoğun piyasalar olarak öne çıkmaktadır. Piyasaya girişteki yatırım maliyetlerinin yüksekliği birçok firma için caydırıcı etken olarak görülmektedir. Yarışılabilir Piyasalar Modelinde ise yatırım maliyetlerinin yüksek olması piyasaya giriş için engeli olarak görülmemekte, yatırım maliyetlerinin ne kadarlık kısmının batık maliyet içerdiği hususu önem kazanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda her ülkede genellikle devlet tarafından tahsis edilen GSM lisanslarının maliyeti, mobil piyasalardaki batık maliyeti belirleyecek olan en önemli unsurdur. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye GSM piyasası Yarışılabilir Piyasalar Modeli çerçevesinde analiz edilmiştir. 2008-2018 yıllarını kapsayan (...) analiz sonucunda piyasanın aşırı karlı bir yapıya sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmış ve karlı piyasa yapısına rağmen yeni firmaların piyasaya giriş yapmadığı görülmüştür. Yeni firmaların piyasaya giriş yapmaması; yüksek lisans bedellerinden kaynaklı batık maliyet engelleri ve spektrumun kıt bir kaynak olmasından kaynaklı sınırlı sayıda firmaya tahsis edilebilmesi sebeplerine bağlanmaktadır. Piyasanın daha verimli ve etkin çalışabilmesine yönelik sanal mobil şebeke işletmelerinin piyasaya entegre edilmesi gerekliliği yönündeki öneri ve bu önerinin desteklenmesine yönelik basit matematiksel model çalışmanın son kısmını oluşturmaktadır.
